Well, what a major f'up that was today...
I am not really sure where the blame even falls, I can't even say for sure that Texas Tech beat Nebraska as much as the Huskers just flat out beat themselves with stupid play calling by Watson and lackluster offensive line output and dumb DUMB penalties/turnovers all game long.
I'm not even going to get started on the refs, that might make sense if this were a three point loss but Nebraska lost by THREE TD's.
I thought for sure going into this game that
1) Nebraska was better than last year 2) Texas Tech was worse 3) We lost in overtime at Tech last year so.... 4) Playing them at home would = easy win for Nebraska
Boy was I ever wrong about that. I think most especially wrong about 1 and 2. I think Tech may actually be better than last year, and sorry to say, Nebraska, at least offensively, is worse, without a doubt.
I really feel bad for the defense, they held Tech pretty decently considering, but what can you do when the offense isn't scoring points? Holding a team to half their offensive output like our defense did would normally equate to a win, but not when our offense is so anemic.
The next couple of weeks actually could be interesting, the way we are running/passing the ball, or should I say, NOT doing either.

Wow...
Where to even begin?
Does anyone remember 8 days ago? Friday, the night before the Texas Tech game... oh we were riding high, I fully expected a fairly easy win at home against a Tech team that we nearly beat at their house last year. There was talk about running the table, with the only hiccup being Oklahoma, but even that game might be winnable!!!
Wow, what a difference a week makes. 2 disgusting losses, both Big 12 opponents, at home, before we even go on the road. Not only are we not going to 'run the table', there isn't even a single game left on the schedule that I can point at and say we can even win for sure.
3 good minutes of offensive football in the last 3 games, that's it. 3 minutes. And if you toss in the Virginia Tech game, that gets even worse. Against VTech, I thought we just got bit by bad luck, and figured playing in Blacksburgh was probably why we couldn't get anything moving on offense.
We can just skip the La Lafalot game, that was a joke of team. Moving on to Missouri: stupid penalties, an inability to execute at all on offense, until a wild (and from the looks of things, lucky) scoring explosion to start one quarter.
Then on to Texas Tech. More inability to execute the gameplan, completely inept for that matter. Stupid penalties, absolute BONEHEAD plays by the offense that lead directly to points for TTech. I begin to wonder... is Nebraska freaking cursed this year???
Now the most stunning of all... moving the ball at will against a BAD Iowa State defense (make no mistake, they are terrible on D), but then putting up more turnovers than points. You have to really say it again: more turnovers than points... let it sink in. That is just stunning. Six of the last eight drives ended in turnovers.
So bad luck? Curse? Have any teams actually BEATEN Nebraska this year, or are we just giving the games away to them??? There comes a time when you have to conclude that there is a fundamental problem with this team on offense, and that is discipline. We seem to be finding new ways on that side of the ball to lose every week. If college football were the military, the defense would be holding a late night 'blanket party' and beating the offense senseless with batteries in socks while they lay in their bunks.
There is a complete lack of fundamental discipline on the offensive side of the ball (and the special teams, most notably punt returns). I want so badly to blame Shawn Watson, I mean, he is the man on offense, the head cheese. Pelini is the defensive guy and that side of the ball seems to be top notch, able to play with ANYONE. But offensively we aren't even close to above average. I grade the offense a resounding F for the last 3 games, so Watson has to get some of the blame.
What about the players? Niles Paul is TERRIBLE, he is Bobby newcombe reincarnated, for every decent play he makes, he makes at least one completely boneheaded "WTF!!!!" type play (muffed punt, muffed lateral, fumble on the two yardline anyone?). We have no true 'go to' speed receiver with great hands that we can truly rely on to get our quarterback out of a jam. Is Zac Lee a bad leader? He had a decent game today, but does that count for much given his performance against any half assed defense? (again, Iowa State has a BAD defense). Roy Helo not nearly in good form, 2nd string hurt, Castille smoking a big bowl of weed somewhere, and a stable of backs I've never heard of before trying to make up the difference. We have no true 'relief valve' type tight end that can go to the middle of the field and provide a big soft target for our QB either.
Bah, at this point I'm just speculating. One thing is certain though, do not be surprised if we finish out this season 2 wins 3 losses, or even 1 win 4 losses. We might even lose them all. I'd like to think we can turn this around but again, the offense is fundamentally flawed right now and I haven't seen anything that gives me hope that the situation is going to change.

Well, I know I haven't been on in a few days. Oklahoma... geesh, what can you say, crazy. I'll take it of course haha. Now we have Kansas. You know what is interesting, you can't look at any games left and say "Yep, that's a win" especially when you consider how poorly our offense has been playing. I would like to think that, against an absolutely atrocious Kansas defense, that somehow we could get something going. One thing is for sure, the drop off in the rushing game when Helu is not in the lineup is steep, there isn't another running back we have at this point who even comes close to Helu's talent, be it speed, blocking, juking ability, etc. I think other teams know this too, because they will stack the box when Helu comes into the game and that actually seems to open things up a bit in the defensive secondary for our horrible quarterbacks to throw misguided passes Still though, although I know Kansas's offense has shown some brilliance, I just don't see them doing much against our pride and joy: the blackshirts. Imagine where we would be right now without this defense. SCARY THOUGHTS FOLKS! SCARY SCARY FOR FRIDAY THE 13th!!! Have a great weekend everyone!

What a difference a month makes, of course several wins in a row helps too.
I sure hope they don't overlook Colorado by thinking too much about the big 12 title game, because odds are Nebraska is going to lose the championship game, and a loss to Colorado may not seem like it matters now, but it would kill us on bowl selection day. Instead of a new year's day bowl, we'd end up bowling around christmas time.

I haven't been around in awhile, but I've been watching the games, and wow the defense is just astounding. Of course, wow, the offense is equally astounding... in the wrong way hee hee.
Texas has a LOT of speed in nearly every position, I don't think Nebraska is going to be able to keep up with them.
Texas 33 Nebraska 13
No offense meant here I'm a Nebraska fan but also a realist.

Wow, can you believe how things have come along for Nebraska this year? Talk about ending the season on a high note. 33-0 blasting of the Pac 10's number two team Arizona. Keep in mind Arizona beat USC, and lost to Oregon by 3 points, 44 to 41. I think it is safe to say that Nebraska is better than the entire Pac 10 Huskers are already being picked as pre season top 5 by several sports writers, not sure I like having that sort of target on us, until we get this offensive nonsense sorted out. We really REALLY need to go back to the power option game.
