Well, I'll post here!
I am a big Husker fan, have been my entire life, but I'm not one of those unrealistic people either. I fully understand that Nebraska had a 30 year run from 1970 to 2000 that will likely never be duplicated again, by the Huskers or anyone else.
That being said, I think Pelini has this team back on track, to at least do quite a bit better than Callahan ever did. I do worry at times about his emotional outbursts, the team tends to feed off of that and that can lead to some problems on the field, and I don't like the poor use of time outs sometimes, but overall I've been pretty happy with the performance of the team so far this year, especially on defense.
I was not very happy after the VTech game, that is, until after Miami played them and VT slaughtered the Hurricanes. Now I find myself wondering: Just how good is Nebraska? I'm under no grand illusions of winning a title anytime (too) soon, and losing 3 games isn't out of the question by any means this year, I just want to see us be competitive, I don't like seeing the Huskers on the wrong side of the blowouts that we used to always do to everyone else 15 years ago.
So, next week we head into Missouri, another team ranked in the top 25, right near Nebraska. Of course it is another night game, but unlike previous years I think we have the talent to actually win the game. Of course this will require that Nebraska be playing good fundamental defense and getting some good play out of the QB on offense, but I don't think that's too much to hope for given their performance at VTech.
The Hokies have one of the top 5 hardest stadiums to win at and while Nebraska didn't win there, they certainly had the game won for 58 minutes until that miracle pass by VTech, and this is why I think Nebraska can go into Missouri, and Kansas for that matter, and come out victorious.
It is weird how these seasons play out though isn't it? Let's recap so far. Miami beats Florida State in week one, and BYU goes into Norman and beats Oklahoma. Then Florida State goes into BYU and absolutely trounces them. Virginia Tech beats Nebraska by one point, then the next week destroys Miami. So Virginia Tech, who beat Miami, who beat Florida State, who beat BYU, who beat Oklahoma... does this mean Nebraska is better than Oklahoma? Nah, it is fun to look at these 'what if' type scenarios, but thankfully Nebraska will get a shot at Oklahoma, in Lincoln, a few weeks from now.
For now, Nebraska will hopefully be focusing on a young but talented Missouri Tigers' team.
